Charla Vall, MA

impact advisor and consultant
Consulting director, junxion strategy

Throughout her career, Charla has focused on addressing the root causes of societal problems.

While working in the non-profit sector, she led many initiatives that went upstream to affect systems-level change—including research and advocacy campaigns that helped establish Calgary’s Low-Income Transit Pass for Youth and a municipal policy framework aimed at improving newcomers’ lives. In 2014, she received the Bhayana Family Foundation Award for Leadership for leading a multi-agency effort to transform service-delivery practices among community-based emergency funds for basic needs.

In 2019, Charla founded an independent consultancy aimed at helping organizations find the clarity, capacity and confidence to create meaningful societal change. She joined forces with Junxion Strategy as an Affiliate Senior Consultant in September 2022 and came on board as a Junxionite in Fall 2023 as Consulting Director.

Her skill set is wide-ranging and encompasses strategic planning, Collective Impact, systems change, sociological research, impact measurement, purpose execution, and speaking. Charla’s colleagues and clients appreciate her ability to listen intently, confront difficult questions, build consensus, and generate action.

She holds an MA with Distinction from the University of East London, UK and a BA from the University of Regina, SK. Charla is an active member of the community in Calgary, Alberta, where she resides with her partner and two children.

“Charla led us through a systematic process to identify important strategy issues for our Foundation. She was reliable, insightful and detailed in her approach. I highly recommend her to those wanting to enhance the impact of their organization. Sharp mind and soft skills!”

“We are so grateful to have worked with Charla to develop our new Purpose statement. Before the process, I felt distracted by too many competing interests and a sense of guilt that I couldn’t ‘do to all.’ The process clarified what I knew in my gut was our Purpose, but I couldn’t articulate with confidence.”

“It was an extreme pleasure to work with Charla in the development of the 10 Year Strategy for the Calgary and Area FASD Collective. Charla was able to keep a diverse group focused on developing our strategy and ensuring we were engaging with the appropriate stakeholders. The development of the strategy and our report back to community has set the Collective up for success, and this could not have been done without Charla’s amazing facilitation of the process”r”

“Charla has created a system that allows you to explore and find your passion regarding becoming a purpose-driven business. It was never overwhelming, but Charla offered tools that allowed you to look wider and deeper than you might have otherwise. I found the process to be well-organized, thoughtful and open. Highly recommended!”
